DATE ---------------------- 8/14-8/15
TIMES --------------------- 6pm to noon
CONDITIONS ------------- Stormy turned to overcast
AREA FISHED ------------- From the Windlass to Bertrand's Island
FISHING METHOD ------- Live Bait
BAIT/LURES USED ------- Herring
NOTES --------------------- We started out in controlled drifts in about 20 feet of water fishing just off the bottom and picked up several walleye up to 22 inches in length and small panfish, then the storm came and drove us to cover where we waited it out. After the lightning passed we headed back out and fished through the night (and the rain) trying various depths in search of channel catfish with no luck. All told we boated 19 fish; 2 hybrids (6 to 6-2/3 lbs), 7 brown catfish (took 2nd place in the contest), 8 walleye, a white perch and a blue gill.

TIMES --------------------- 7:00AM to 7:00PM
CONDITIONS ------------- Very Windy 20+mph
AREA FISHED ------------- Nolan's Point,Weedy flat area near Halsey Island
FISHING METHOD ------- Undershot Rig,Crankbaiting points
BAIT/LURES USED ------- Undershot Rig, Crankbaits(deep diving & lipless)
NOTES --------------------- It was a very windy day with cold front approaching. But the bass seemed to be aggressive because of the wind. Me and my brother were using crankbaits to catch few 12" bass and undershot rig(consists of using 1/6oz. bass sinker at the end of the 6lb. test line and using a #1 offset hook 12" from the sinker(lure becomes suspended in water). We used 4" Berkley Power Worm with this rig and caught bass, small walleye, and crappies near points. This rig is extremely popular in Japan where angling pressure is enormous. Since this rig works well in high pressured areas, I hope to practice using this rig to do better in next bass tournament.

TIMES --------------------- 6:00PM through 9:30PM
CONDITIONS ------------- Warm, windy till sunset
AREA FISHED ------------- Davis Cove, Barnes Ridge
FISHING METHOD ------- Downrigging
BAIT/LURES USED ------- Rattlin' Rogue, Firetiger Thunderstick & Rapala
NOTES --------------------- My partner and I started with ultralight rods for crappie in Davis Cove around 6:00 PM and did very well with large crappie, sunfish, a couple largemouth and rockbass. At around 7:20 we started downrigging in Davis Cove, almost immediately a release went off and after a brief fight, broke the 12lb. test line. 20 minutes later another release went off and we caught a small hybrid. The boats in the area with herring were catching alot of hybrids and walleye. My partner had a hunch and suggested we go to Barnes Ridge so we pulled the rods in and drove to the ridge. Within five minutes a release went off and after a considerable fight, my partner, Fred "Hightek" Nitek brought a 36" plus 12lb. tiger muskie to the boat. We carefully boated it, took some quick pictures and released it. This fish was in perfect health, fat, strong and beautiful. This was my first upclose and personal with a muskie of any size except for the stocking we did as a club two and a half years ago when they were 15 inches and skinny and I had the pleasure of actually putting them in the lake. It's going to be very interesting in the next three years or more to see where the state record comes from.

DATE ---------------------- 8/1
TIMES --------------------- 6:30-10 am
CONDITIONS ------------- Overcast early but got hot
AREA FISHED ------------- Bonaparte Point and Bertrand's Island
FISHING METHOD ------- Live bait
BAIT/LURES USED ------- Herring
NOTES --------------------- We anchored at Bonaparte and got a small striper and lost another. Another club member saw seagull activity by Bertrand's Island and after checking it out he got on the radio and said he had 4 fish on. We pulled anchor, got bait, and shot over. Within 2 minutes of dropping lines we had a double and before releasing the first another was on, all around 6-7 lbs., and as fast as they hit it was over. Pretty Cool!
