KDC Fishing Report
For May 1999

NAME --------------------- Lou Tarascio

DATE ---------------------- 5/22/99

TIMES --------------------- 4-6pm

CONDITIONS ------------- Hot, Mild Wind, Very Rough Water

AREA FISHED ------------- Davis Cove To Bonapart Point

FISHING METHOD ------- Casting

BAIT/LURES USED ------- Road Runner, Small Spinner Baits

NOTES --------------------- Due to boat traffic and rough water trolling and down rigging wasn't producing. My partner Fred Nytek suggested we cast the shore line for pan fish. At 4:30 using this method, we had caught two Pickerel over twenty inches, a 3 lb. plus largemouth and something I'd never seen. He threw a white road runner to shore and it actually hit a rock on the shore, the second it dropped off the rock and into the water it was hit with what he thought was a large fish. Using an ultralight rod and 4lb. test ten minutes later we got our first look at what had hit his lure. It was a 5lb. plus hybrid, but the most interesting part was as the hybrid came close to the boat, each time it did, there was a much larger one under it so close if we had a bigger net we might have gotten them both. Adapting to conditions produces fish. We never leave the dock without a variety of rods for all species. It just goes to show, you never know about what you might come up with. Five minutes later we got a 3lb. plus walleye topping off a slow starting day and making it very productive.

DATE ---------------------- 5/14 and 5/16

TIMES --------------------- all day

CONDITIONS ------------- fantastic

AREA FISHED ------------- all over

FISHING METHOD ------- trolling

BAIT/LURES USED ------- Rapalas and Phoebes

NOTES --------------------- I took off friday May 14th and spent the day on the water. What a great day! I boated 7 trout, lost the 8th and thought "I hope I do as well at sunday's contest." Well sunday came around and it was even better. Between myself and Eric we boated 19 fish and lost a couple more. We weren't in the money but the fishing was great. 13 trout from 11-16 inches, a striper, a largemouth, a smallmouth, a pickerel, a rock bass and a big hungry sunfish, with a Spittin' Image, on the first cast off the dock while waiting to go. The wierdest thing that happened was when the largest trout of the day, while taking line at mile a minute, became airborne and spit the lure. Not so wierd right? When I pulled in the lure a found a KDC fin tag attached to it.
