Jeff Mancini of the Musky Trout Hatchery, Asbury, NJ is shown in the attached photo holding a 26 inch tiger trout weighing over eight pounds. This fish is just one example of the more than 1,100 trout float stocked into Lake Hopatcong this morning by the KNEE DEEP CLUB. The KNEE DEEP CLUB has been aggressively stocking trout into Lake Hopatcong since 1953. The TIGER TROUT is a hybrid cross between a brook trout and a brown trout and are becoming more popular with anglers at Lake Hopatcong and also other bodies of water. President Lou Marcucci stated that this was the first of 3 scheduled trout stockings for this year. The next scheduled stocking will be on May 11th and there will also be a fall stocking of brown trout in the fall of the year, Marcucci said. KDC stocking chairman Tim Clancy added that this first stocking consisted of 40 % brown trout, 20% rainbow trout, 20% brook trout and 20% tiger trout. The May 11th stocking will consist of 40% brown trout, 25% rainbow trout and 25% tiger trout and the fall stocking will be 100% brown trout.
Also, 700 brown trout and 300 tiger trout were stocked into the lake on 12/19/02.
