MY BROTHER-IN-LAW AND I GOT 1 SMALL STRIPER, 1 SMALLY, AND A HUGE BULL HEAD ABOUT 2LB. THEN WE DESIDED TO TROLL FOR MUSKY AFTER ABOUT 3 HOURS WITH NO SUCCESS. WE TROLLED OVER A HUGE SCHOOL OF FISH IN SOUTH GREAT COVE AND DECIDED TO DRIFT WITH HERRING AND THAT'S ALL SHE WROTE. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT WE WENT THROUGH 8 DOZEN HERRING. CATCHING MANY STRIPERS BETWEEN 3-8.5 LBS. ABOUT 35 STRIPERS, 2 WALLEYE, 2 LARGE CRAPPIE, 1 CHANNEL CATFISH ABOUT 7LBS AND LOST MANY MORE. THE BEST DAY I'VE HAD ON THE LAKE IN A WHILE.

TIMES --------------------- 8 am- 4:30 pm
CONDITIONS ------------- Warm, mostly overcast, some breeze........sometimes calm water, sometimes 1'-2' swells depending on where you fished
AREA FISHED ------------- Yacht club, Byram Bay & southeast of Chestnut
WATER TEMPERATURE-- 68
FISHING METHOD ------- Live herring, lures and jigs.
BAIT/LURES USED ------- rattlin rapala, Bomber Long A, all types of jigs
NOTES --------------------- We missed out on some bigger fish but landed several perch, crappie, one 17" stickerel and loads of sunfish. Most of the action was in Byram but we got a few near the Yacht club. Mike had one missed bite south of Chestnut. Overall it was a nice day on the lake but the wake on the main lake forced us to look for calmer waters. Jigging with and without floats got us into some smaller panfish and fun. We used Gulp fish fry and maggots on the jigs, both worked fine. Two of the crappies were 12" or better. The pickerel and perch were caught on herring.

NOTES --------------------- I soaked hot dog chunks in Berkley powerbait catfish fish attractant for 1 week in the fridge. I was using a no.2 hook with an egg sinker on the bottom at the River Styx Bridge. My fishing buddy Chris Pereira also caught a 2 lb. 7 oz. white cat in the same area. Both fish were released.

AREA FISHED ------------- Elba Point and Byram Bay
WATER TEMPERATURE-- 71
FISHING METHOD ------- Anchored with live herring rigged with egg sinker
BAIT/LURES USED ------- Live Herring
NOTES --------------------- After Chris boated a nice walleye things slowed down so we moved to Byram Cove. I cast a live herring below a slip bobber off a point. I was getting my second pole ready and looked up to see my bobber gone. I set the hook and landed this 22 inch Largemouth which I won a skillful angler award for. Fish was CPR.

CONDITIONS ------------- sunny and breezy, lake still high from hurricane
AREA FISHED ------------- state park
WATER TEMPERATURE-- 74
FISHING METHOD ------- live bait, herring
BAIT/LURES USED ------- weighted rigs with herring
NOTES --------------------- Things were slow through the night, we got a few crappie and a white perch (all decent sizes, nothing too big) action wasn't fast enough to keep us awake. We fell asleep a few times and woke up to bullheads taking our herring. Artie caught a big 1 lbs 12oz brown cat. Then the sun came up and we each caught our personal best hybrid within 20 minutes of each other! Mine was 25 inches and about 7 lbs and artie's was just under 9 lbs.
