AREA FISHED ------------- Woodport Bay near Ashley Cove

FISHING METHOD ------- Casting Lures
BAIT/LURES USED ------- Grub worms and weedless swimbaits
NOTES --------------------- Not having a boat and getting tired of being trapped fishing from land I recently decided to purchase a kayak to fish from (thanks partially to Jon's great lecture on the subject during the July meeting). This was only the second time I fished Lake Hopatcong on the kayak (got skunked the first time). I caught a crappie within 5 minutes on a swimming jig (my first Lake Hopatcong kayak caught fish) and I thought it would be a good day. Unfortunately that was all I caught, but at least I didn't get skunked again. I'd appreciate any fishing advice anyone has for a new boater to Lake Hopatcong as I've had luck on other smaller lakes in the area, but not so much on Hopatcong.

FISHING METHOD ------- Live Line
BAIT/LURES USED ------- Herring
NOTES --------------------- Maiden voyage of our new pontoon and the stripers cooperated. Had a 2 lb and 7 lb along with some perch on the herring. Just a tip though, if ever you are out in a new boat and are trying to bare hand herring out of your livewell because you forgot to buy a bait net, an old kneedeep club summertime hat will do in a pinch. Saved my day.
