NAME --------------------- Pat Lange, Dave Faulkner, and Jim Archambault

E-MAIL --------------------- webguy@kneedeepclub.org

DATE ---------------------- 3/5/06

TIMES --------------------- 7-3pm

CONDITIONS ------------- cool and windy

AREA FISHED ------------- main lake

WATER TEMPERATURE-- 4 inches of ice

FISHING METHOD ------- tip-ups and jigging

BAIT/LURES USED ------- shiners and Jigging Rapalas w/spikes

NOTES --------------------- We haven't been able to get on the main lake to ice fish the deep water all winter, the ice was pretty ugly and non-existent at times. Right when we thought the ice season was over, a recent cold snap locked up the lake and there was 4 inches covering most of it. So after checking it out Saturday to make sure it was safe, we loaded up and hit the ice. I brought a camcorder to see if I could get some footage. The fishing was slow but Pat finally got a flag and it was a beauty:

41 inch muskie (video)

Things were quiet for a while, then the ice began to groan and change a little:

pressure ridge formed (video)

Pat had to retrieve one of his tip-ups because his set got split by it:

Go get it Pat! (video)

As it warmed up the wind picked up, then it was my turn:

Jigging up a 9 pound channel catfish (video)

After releasing it, Dave suggested I weigh it in - too late! When I hooked up again I said if its bigger than the last I'll weigh this one in:

11 pound channel catfish (video)

Then a third was caught that edged out the 11 pounder by 4 ounces.

cats
no video on the third fish - nobody wanted to run after it

We had two other flags with no results and a couple fish on the jig that got off before we saw them. Not great numbers but a great day on the ice!
