TIMES --------------------- 8-5pm

CONDITIONS ------------- fair

AREA FISHED ------------- drop off to deep water

WATER TEMPERATURE--

FISHING METHOD ------- tip-ups and jigs

BAIT/LURES USED ------- shiners and maggots

NOTES --------------------- We set up some tip-ups with shiners along the drop-off that didn't do much for us except a couple of perch. The jigging landed a sunfish, 3 small stripers, and 3 nice channel catfish from 7 to 8-1/2 lbs. We marked lots of fish on our flashers but found it difficult to get them to bite, some more so than others. Here's my only fish for the day:

FISHING METHOD ------- Tip-ups & Jigging

BAIT/LURES USED ------- Shiners and Jigs

NOTES --------------------- Nice 1st day out on the hard stuff in 2005. Me and Brian Murphy (soon to be KDC member) had a good time on the 8 - 10" of ice. It was a bit mushy in some areas, but real solid underneath the slop. Set up the tip-ups and nailde 2 nice Pickerel in the 1st 90 minutes. Had a few laughs and met up with some other KDC members, Fred, Joe L, Homer, etc. The only downside of the day was the annoying voice projecting from the intercom at Johnny's Marina...

NOTES --------------------- today was a good day for me and my uncle. well to me it was. it was my first time ice fishing on lake hopatcong and i was so0o0o0o hyper to catch a fish through the ice. So we took our ice house(shantey)about 50 yards out from jonnys marina. we set up the tip-ups with some medium shiners. then when that was done we put our ice jigging poles in the water. while jigging i looked out to see if my tip-ups flag went up. and shure enough it did. i pulled out of the water a 3lbs pickeral. then later on while jigging i caught another pickeral. then after the bite slowed down on the jigging lures we switched to mouises. i ended up catching one yellow perch. then it started to get late then we decided to go home. it was a great day. and i thank my uncle rich for taking me out ice fishing for my first time on lake hopatcong. WATER TEMPERATURE-- 36

FISHING METHOD ------- troll

BAIT/LURES USED ------- crankbaits

NOTES --------------------- I couldn't get out New Year's day but I did check the boat ramp (which was mostly clear of ice) and then the ice at the state park with my kids in tow. I noticed a set of tip-ups, a bucket, and a couple rods out there but no humans, huh? I saw a flag up so I checked it out leaving my kids with friends at shore. While spud barring the ice along the way I looked for a hole that might explain why there was no one around ... maybe a big hole. The ice was a little over 4 inches thick but I just didn't feel comfortable on it. I could see water between the cracks move ahead of me as I approached. Well, no fish on the flag and no bait either. I figured someone would come out to their stuff if they saw me messing with it but no dice. I guess they didn't know (or didn't care) that you can't leave your tip-ups unattended (state law). Anyway, I went back to shore and a few minutes later a couple guys passed me by (carrying a bucket of bait and speaking a language I didn't recognize) who went out to tend their stuff. As far as a fishing report goes, the only thing I caught trolling (while dodging icebergs) was another anchor, just thought I'd help out Scan-Tech Salvage clean up the lake a little.

CONDITIONS ------------- breezy

AREA FISHED ------------- boating docks by jonnys marina

WATER TEMPERATURE-- dont know

FISHING METHOD ------- jigging

BAIT/LURES USED ------- rubber jig's and metal jig's

NOTES --------------------- It was a slow day for me and my cousin Jon. We went fishing to day just to let our parents relax over last nights new years. so when we got to the docks my cousin started to jig a medium sized rubber worm that had a purple body and a pinkish-orange tail. As soon as he droped his jig in the water a monster perch swallowed it up. it had to atleast be 1lbs. then later on i caught my fish of the day. It was a small pickeral about 1 and a half pounds. He put up a fight to remember(LOL). so that is my first fishing report of the year and it will sure not be my last. so have a happy new year everyone and be safe!!! PRACTICE CATCH AND RELEASE)
