NOTES --------------------- The lake is dropping fast--this might be the last trip of the year. Had some difficulty launching the Tracker at Lees due to the water level. Picked up one Largemouth North of the Cove. Wind got a little much so we retired to inside the Cove and played perch fishermen for the rest of the day. It's probably time to park the boat for the winter and dream about next years catch.

NOTES --------------------- Is there a reason why the water levels at the lake have risen significantly over the last couple of weeks? Has the major drawdown been suspended for the time being? Webguy Response: The draw down was temporarily stopped but has since been accelerated to make up for the stoppage. Water's going down fast!
Just curious as to what's going on.

NOTES --------------------- Hello Fellow Fishermen! For what it's worth, here's my two cents on the fishing conditions of late. As a animal behavioral researcher and scientist I use water and weather conditions as my guideline. This year the weather has been terribly unstable (not good) in the entire northeast and fishing results have not been consistently good in other bodies of water, either. My biologist friends in other states have confirmed this. I have been to other local lakes and the reports at the docks have been of very few good catches. But, I have caught many good muskies, walleyes, large and smallmouth bass in these waters and the difference has been better (darker) water color. Lake Hopatcong has had rather clear water this year. If you combine this with even slightly lower water levels (the equivalent of clearing water) and bad (unstable) weather conditions...well, this can make for some very tough fishing. The present weather, with a warming trend and somewhat more stable cconditions, may be a good window of opportunity to make a good catch this weekend (if things don't change). I can't fish this weekend so I hope everyone catches a bunch of big ones. The walleyes I caught the other day came off of the northeast corner of Barne's Ridge where, I believe, is the spot where the fish first hit the structure on a marginal weather condition. I made repeated trolling passes at slow to moderate speeds trying to hit my target spot(rocky). I lost a few lures(spoonplugs) but I had to be precise to make contact with a few straggler fish or two (casting would have been more precise). I spend most of my time on the water mapping the bottom looking for similar spots throughout the lake. I hope my fellow Knee Deep Club members find this information helpful. Keep the reports coming. I get great pleasure from reading about your fishing successes and I always appreciate the sharing of information. Thank you. Jeff Loy

NOTES --------------------- Jon and I took the john boat out w/a dead battery because I pulled my real boat when the lake started to be lowered. (a month ago)Then after I winterized it the water level came back up. Whats up with that? Thats why I think there hasn't been to many fishing reports. We all took are boats out! If they waited one more month before they lowered the lake maybe the fishing could be better and restarants and bait stores would be doing better aswell. This years fishing was slow all around except for a two or three weeks where the stripers where hot. all in all we caught 4 pickeral and some perch. It would of been nice to catch some bass but I'm not to sure how to fish the deeper waters on this lake. can any one help me on the method to use and where to go?

NOTES --------------------- Another disappointing day. I don't know if it's me, but the fishing has been extreemly slow for the last several weeks. If it wasn't for a rock bass, I would have been skunked. I was skunked last week. if anybody is catching fish, please post your reports and let the rest of us know how your doing it. Maybe Jeff Loy could tell us what he trolled up those Walleyes with and how fast his troll was. I'm sure I'm not the only one who could use the help!
PS. I also caught an outfit off of Sunrise Point earlier! Cheap reel, but still functional. Somebody's not paying attention out there!

BAIT/LURES USED ------- Rapalas, Spoonplugs and jigs
NOTES --------------------- No muskies...no activity...except for one, very hard fighting 65 inch fishing rod and spinning reel that struck a trolled lure on Nolan's Point. That's the fourth rod and reel outfit that I've landed this year and the third to come off of Nolan's Point. Earlier this year I hooked and landed a double(two bait casting outfits)in that same spot. I also managed, late in the day, two walleyes(a 5 pounder and a 3 1/2 pounder) trolling over the top of Barne's Ridge. ALL FISH AND EQUIPMENT RELEASED!
P.S. I've not been on the lake in a month and I've noticed that there have not been many fishing reports. Has fishing been as tough as I found it today with fish hard to find, or is nobody fishing? Or, is no one bothering to send in reports? Curious. JJL
