NOTES --------------------- Hoping for warmer temps than last week, went looking for LMB in the shallows and adjacent ledges and points. Had little to luck until late in the day when the water temps got to 54-ish in the shallows. My wife and brother managed a few giblet-sized bass and a small pickeral on soft jerkbaits and spinners. Donna broke off something big on the jerkbait in the back of Styx, maybe a musky or big pickeral. All caught & released as always! Be safe out there and good luck.

AREA FISHED ------------- between islands, byram cove, river styxx, state park, lakes end and great cove.
WATER TEMPERATURE-- wish I knew, my depthsounder is in for repairs
FISHING METHOD ------- trolling
BAIT/LURES USED ------- rapalas and phoebes
NOTES --------------------- Well I take someone new fishing and I have a tough day. Todd is a club member and real nice guy. We fished well together. We caught 3 trout( four if you count the one I lost for Todd at the boat because of no net in my boat) Biggest fish was the lost brown at the state park. Would have been Todd's largest brown on the lake. I caught a tiger trout in byram cove that was a holdover from the fall or spring. When I cleaned this fish it was orange like a salmon and in it's throat was a hook 1/2 disloved. All stocked tigers I've caught have had white flesh. Caught the other 2 in river styxx. One brookie 16in and a 10in brown. Side catch of 4 pickerel and 1 largemouth. All trout on phoebes and all other on rapalas.

AREA FISHED ------------- Chestnut Point to Raccoon Island
FISHING METHOD ------- Trolling and casting
BAIT/LURES USED ------- Jigs, rapalas and spoonplugs
NOTES --------------------- What was intended to just be a shake-down cruise turned my inaugural trip of the year into a lucky outing. On my first cast on my first stop at my first structure on my first outing of the year I landed a chunky 2 Lb. 8 oz. smallmouth bass. Further casting produced no other fish. As I left the spot I put a trolling lure down and not 100 feet along the breakline I hooked and landed a 8 lb. 4 oz. pure-strain musky. After the opening fifteen minutes I resumed my diet of humble pie and only managed a half dozen scattered pickerel over the shallow weed beds. The bass and musky came from about 10 feet of water on Chestnut Point. ALL FISH IMMEDIATELY RELEASED.

AREA FISHED ------------- Lee's County to Brady Bridge

NOTES --------------------- Caught one 1 pound 6oz rainbow and 1 small brook trout. Had a heart pounding moment when I heard the drag scream near brady bridge as I watched my rod propel off the boat and sink to the bottom. I'd like to think it was fish but it was more likely a hard fighting weed. It wouldn't be opening day without losing a piece of equipment.
