CONDITIONS ------------- Windy

AREA FISHED ------------- Bertrams Island, Pickerel Point

FISHING METHOD ------- Drop bobbers and flat linning

BAIT/LURES USED ------- Herring

NOTES --------------------- Very windy conditions, tried to fish the calm areas. Caught 3-1/2 lb Largemouth, 1-1/2 lb Crappie, and some Perch. A large fish ran with the bait, we thought it was a Striper, but it turned out to be a record 8-1/2 lb Tiger Trout caught by Craig Pozsonyi(see below). After weighing the fish in at Dow's, we went back out and caught a 3lb pickerel, a largemouth, 4 walleye, one of them being 5 lbs, and of course, some perch were caught as well. Overall, a pretty good night of fishing. Later that evening, we checked with another boat we went out with. Mike Frame and Jeff reported catching five walleye, two over 5 lbs, and 10 largemouth ranging up to 3-1/2 lbs.

Craig Pozsonyi's 8-1/2 lb Tiger Trout caught and released 5/16/02

NAME --------------------- Jeff Burrell

E-MAIL --------------------- micp1991@aol.com

DATE ---------------------- 05-14-02

TIMES --------------------- 0600-1600 hrs

CONDITIONS ------------- Water temps from 54 at dawn up to 56-57 after some afternoon sun. Cloudy early, occaisonal shower, mostly sunny later - windy early, VERY windy later from the west

AREA FISHED ------------- western shorelines River Styx, Bonaparte Point west to Pinetree Point, Byram and Henderson

FISHING METHOD ------- Casting/pitching to shoreline & structure

BAIT/LURES USED ------- finesse size crawdad color tubes

NOTES --------------------- The water level is excellent, above normal by a little bit it appears- finally! Fought an annoying west wind early and a nasty wind later in the day. A 16' aluminum vs that steady 15-30mph blow gave the trolling motor quite a workout. Attempted to stay along western shorelines and worked shorelines and inside edges. Tried spinners, spinnerbaits, minnowbaits and jigs. Got results finally on tunes after the water temp came up a few degrees (from 55 to 57/58 degrees). My brother and I finished with several smallmouth and largemouth up to 3lbs, a nice 3lb Walleye and a trunkload of rockbass. Get out there and enjoy our lake before the real crowds arrive! Good luck all!

CONDITIONS ------------- very windy cloudy some sun

AREA FISHED ------------- Bewtween islands, Boneparte point, Henderson, and Byram

FISHING METHOD ------- trolling

BAIT/LURES USED ------- Rappalas,thunderstick jr, phoebes and paddys

NOTES --------------------- The wind today made fishing hard. Tried places I caught before but, were out of main wind. After first 30 minutes with no hits I found an old way of fishing that worked. This year we have been catching close to the boat. The lines back further have not been as productive. Today I thew a 1/4oz gold phoebe as far back as I could. I had caught 4 and lost 3 before another rod had a hit. By 1 pm I had 8 trout in the boat(4 browns released). Went to Dows to wiegh a brown. Today I caught a 3 lb 6 oz brown. I also lost a bigger fish I never saw. Both these fish on the same rod but the second one took drag from the starte. Went back out the wind was killing me. Tried Bonaparte point area and caught 2 more( brown 15inches 1 1/2 lbs state tag #c2222). Holdover was released but the rainbow was kept. Total 7browns,2rainbows and 1 brookie. 5 browns released. Can anyone tell me when my holdover was stocked.

AREA FISHED ------------- Yacht Club and Riverstyx Bridge

FISHING METHOD ------- Drop Bobbers and live lining Hering

BAIT/LURES USED ------- Herring, lures, and worms

NOTES --------------------- We are the three guys Mike talked about. Didn't catch much at the Yacht club, and went to Riverstyx bridge. The largemouth bass were spawning and we crushed them. Caught 11 largemouth, all between 1-3lbs. One smallmouth, one crappie, two walleye, one was a little under 4lbs and the other was a little over 4, and too many perch to even count. We were unsuccessful with casting lures. Although herring was used to catcht he majority of the fish, the largest Walleye was caught on a baby nightcrawler because we ran out of herring and the bait shop had already closed.
