DATE ---------------------- 1/17/02

TIMES --------------------- 8:00am - 3:00pm

CONDITIONS ------------- Partly cloudy / upper 30's/ 5-6" ice

AREA FISHED ------------- Woodport

FISHING METHOD ------- Jigging/ Tip-ups

BAIT/LURES USED ------- Sweedish Pimple/ Dot jigs with mousies and Shiners

NOTES --------------------- I fished pretty close to the open water spot and did fairly well. Lots of perch but most were small. Tips ups brought in larger perch and pickerel. The water was a little bit too shallow and weedy for me. Lack of ice keeps everyone from fishing thier hotspots. Lake drawdown dosent help either. I would like to fish out in front of the Forest Park Yacht Club but I have no access. If Anybody knows how to get out there without parking at the club, let me know. Thanks, Good Luck and Be Careful

BAIT/LURES USED ------- shiners and polish jigs with grubs

NOTES --------------------- I spent the morning at the sportsman's show at the Raritan Expo Center working the kneedeep booth. There's no snow down there and it felt pretty mild. Some people were really surprised we're icefishing up here. It was nice to come home and see snow and the holes we cut were skimming over with just a little bit of skim ice. Fred picked up his usual half a dozen perch or so and I caught my first largemouth of the year (it spooled my tip up) plus some pickerel and perch. We'll give it another try on Sunday.

BAIT/LURES USED ------- jigs and mousie

NOTES --------------------- Warren, my son and I were walking on water for the first time this year doing what we like best, ice fishing. Caught upwards of 45 perch. Only 2 bluegills. Water is very weedy. I believe due to the warmer than normal fall the weeds did not die off as other years. We were sight fishing, actually could see the fish hit the bait, really neat. Main lake is open so be very careful and there are some open water areas near the state park. Ice was 4 to 6 inches thick. Good ice fishing to everyone this year.
