DATE ---------------------- 6/29/01
TIMES --------------------- Early Evening
CONDITIONS ------------- Hot, hazy and humid. Choppy waters from wakes too.
AREA FISHED ------------- Great Cove off of dock.
FISHING METHOD ------- Casting.
BAIT/LURES USED ------- Medium sized blue/silver rat l trap.
NOTES --------------------- Caught two 1 lb. largemouth bass and had a couple of other fish on that spit the lure. I couldn't believe the amount of boat traffic that infiltrated the lake this weekend. Plus, with the unbearable heat, it was that much more annoying. I guess I should try the weekdays. Tight Lines!

AREA FISHED ------------- Dropoffs

BAIT/LURES USED ------- Jigs and Plastics
NOTES --------------------- Caught one smallmouth and then gave up on the bass. Fished good areas I know and got zip. Water temp. might have jumped up to fast, not looking for excuses, but it helps. So I did the panfish thing with jigs and ultralight and slaughtered the crappie. Must have caught at least 40. Fish ranged from 8 to 11 inches. To me these fish are so much fun and really not that easy to catch, being they suspend and hit very light. Keep up the great work Knee Deep by sinking those bruch piles. To the guys who sunk the brush piles I have some areas that would benefit the crappie by having the brush piles placed there. Next year if you drop some trees I will come up and let you know the locations.

mounting must have been defective, I was hit by a wake,
and away she went, rod and all.

CONDITIONS ------------- Overcast medium wind
AREA FISHED ------------- main lake
FISHING METHOD ------- trolling
BAIT/LURES USED ------- rappalas,thundersticks,phoebes and DAM spoons
NOTES --------------------- Was going to troll herring but need a calm day to try. We trolled for trout. Caught 4 trout all on rigger 12 to 15 feet. One on black and silver rappala and another on smallest salt water rappala in a color I found in Australia. Never seen the color before. When Bob saw the lure he said it would catch and it did. Other 2 trout on jr thunderstick in black and silver. We lost 3 other fish we had on. All fish hooked in mouth. There goes my theory on the idea of not swallowing the bait but hitting the bait and coming back to eat.

TIMES --------------------- 4:30 to 8:30 pm
CONDITIONS ------------- light breeze water 75 little boat traffic
AREA FISHED ------------- main lake middle
FISHING METHOD ------- trolling
BAIT/LURES USED ------- rappalas
NOTES --------------------- Decided to troll trout. Tried lots of lures only black and silver rappalas worked. Caught 2 trout on rigger at 13 and 15 ft. Lost 2 trout at boat same depth. Also caught 1 bullhead the same way. Lost at least 10 strikes on riggers. Half the time felt the fish on. All fish caught and the 2 lost had hooks in head or side. I believe fish are hitting the bait and then coming back to eat instead of just swallowing the bait. This is how schools of fish attack the bait. Will try trolling live bait next time maybe.

TIMES --------------------- 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
CONDITIONS ------------- pre-frontal(3rd day), hot, humid and hazy--excellent conditions
AREA FISHED ------------- Van Every Cove to Henderson Bay
FISHING METHOD ------- trolling and casting
BAIT/LURES USED ------- spoonplugs, rapalas and jigs
NOTES --------------------- If Monday's (6-11-01) conditions were excellent, then today's were better yet! Fellow fishermen, please do everything in your power to get onto the water in the next few days before the next front comes through. When I hit the water I made a cast off the sharp break on Chestnut Point and popped a 2 1\2 lb. pickerel. Further casting produced no fish so hoping the movement was ahead of me and not behind me, I trolled up the lake checking the short bars as I went along. At 10:45 a.m. as I headed up towards Henderson Bay I picked up a 2 1\4 lb. largemouth and anchored up. During the next hour I enjoyed the best movement I've experienced so far this spring. 30 additional fish from one anchoring position. By 12:00 noon it was over. The final damage: 22 largemouth bass, only one slightly under 2 lbs., most in the 2-2 3/4 lb. range, with 6 of them between 3 and 3 1\2 lbs. 4 more pickerel and 5 perch. The speed was fast. The slower presentations (worms and jigs) did not seem to produce during or after the activity period. The school seemed to be sitting in 12 or 13 feet of water. I believe that any of the short bars connecting to the bay and spawning areas will produce equally well. Check your speeds carefully and get the lures near the bottom. I wish I had had one of you with me to share the fun! I can't get out for awhile so I hope someone finds this information helpful. Enjoy! ALL FISH RELEASED.

TIMES --------------------- 12:00 noon-4:00 p.m.
CONDITIONS ------------- pre-frontal, dead calm and no boat traffic
AREA FISHED ------------- Halsey and Raccoon Islands,Byram Cove,Chestnut Pt.
FISHING METHOD ------- Trolling and casting
BAIT/LURES USED ------- spoonplugs, rapalas, rattletraps, jigs, spinnerbaits
NOTES --------------------- The fish were already moving when I arrived on the water. The first trolling pass produced a fish, as did the reverse pass. A marker was thrown, an anchoring position taken, and thereafter nearly every cast produced either a strike, a follow, or a fish. All speeds seemed to work equally well. I spent a lot of time experimenting with many different lures. You know the ones I mean. The ones that sit in the far corners of your tacklebox and never get used. They all produced as long as they could get near the bottom in 12-14 ft. of water(Halsey Island breakline). The movement abruptly ended at 1:45 p.m. Totals: 6 largemouths(3 fish from 3 1\4 to 3 1\2 lbs.& 3 fish from 2 to 2 1\2 lbs.). 8 decent pickerel, 5 perch and 1 baby hybrid, all from one spot. The conditions were excellent. ALL FISH RELEASED.
