NAME --------------------- Donna & Jeff Burrell

DATE ---------------------- 05/30/01

TIMES --------------------- 10am to 3pm

CONDITIONS ------------- Sunny,high pressure, very windy NW 15-25 mph, water temps 60-64 degrees, water mostly clear - slightly stained around weedbeds

AREA FISHED ------------- main lake shore near sunken island, Woodport weedlines and shoreline

FISHING METHOD ------- casting/pitching docks and weedbed edges

BAIT/LURES USED ------- spinnerbaits, tubes

NOTES --------------------- Fought the winds and hugged the protected shorelines, casting and pitching to inside and outside weed edges. Landed 4 pickeral to 25", a few yellow perch, a few big rock bass and 6 LMB up to 3 lbs.

QUESTION: Saw alot of beds, big ones, some with bluegills occupying them. Have all the LMB and SMB completed spawning already? Looks like thats the case, but the water temps are still on the low side and fluctuating alot. I was off the water from the last week in April till May 21st due to motor problems so we might have missed the aggressive pre-spawn/spawn period I guess. If you have thoughts on this please e-mail me at MICP1991@aol.com.

Thanks.

AREA FISHED ------------- Hurd Cove;Prospect Point;Henderson Cove;Venetian Canal

FISHING METHOD ------- skipping docks,spinnerbaiting,topwater

BAIT/LURES USED ------- Yamamoto Senkos,1/2oz Crystal S tandem spinnerbaits(white),Zara Spooks

NOTES --------------------- It was a chilly, cloudy day all day with northeast wind blowing. slow start with few postspawn bass on Yamamoto Senkos under docks located near main lake weed flat. few bass also exploded on my tuned Heddon Zara Spooks, but could not set the hook on them. Later in the day, moved to shallow & weedy Henderson cove and caught an aggressive feeding bass with fast moving spinnerbaiting near surface. Although most of the bass are non-aggressive due to fatigue from spawning, I found out that there are some bass already recovering from spawning and are in an early-summer pattern.Looks like most of the aggressive ones are shifting to main lake weed flats from shallow spawning areas. Can't wait till few more weeks when real topwater season arrives! Zara Spook rules!!!

TIMES --------------------- 7:30AM to 6:00PM

CONDITIONS ------------- mostly sunny,northeast wind

AREA FISHED ------------- prospect point,Brady's Bridge

FISHING METHOD ------- spinnerbaits,jigs,poppers,jerkbaits

BAIT/LURES USED ------- Crystal S Spinnerbait(designed by Norio Tanabe)

NOTES --------------------- I thought the fishing would be slow due to northeast wind, but what a turnaround!! I caught 5 largemouth (mostly pre-spawn,all released)all on 1/2oz white tandem Crystal S spinnerbaits in shallow bank near weed flat. Did not fish for bedding bass in these areas(did not observe beds around here & we were'nt intending to fish for bedding bass anyways). The key was to fish for pre-spawn bass in areas near weed flat which had slightly lower water temperature than shallower coves. Bass even exploded on my brother's Megabass Pop-X popper! He also caught bass on jig and bomber long A jerkbait.Another key was to locate baitfish. There were tons of baitfish in the little pocket near the weed flat.
